2017 Transatlantic Seminar – Apply for Scholarships

At a time when we can no longer take the transatlantic relationship for granted, the international law firm Jones Day and the German Law Journal are pleased to announce the 6th annual Transatlantic Seminar, which will take place March 5-12, 2017. This successful program brings German and American law students together for a week-long, intensive block-seminar focusing on comparative constitutional law and visits to the German Federal Constitutional Court (Karlsruhe) and European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg). The 2017 seminar will take place in Frankfurt am Main.

The seminar’s format makes it a singular experience as it provides the two groups of students with a rare opportunity to engage intensively and intimately with peers from a foreign legal system. The Transatlantic Seminar provides a unique blend of comparative law coverage, intercultural learning, and experiences at important legal institutions.  The program is led by Prof. Russell Miller (Washington & Lee University, Virginia; Editor-in-Chief, German Law Journal).

Beginning with the 2017 program, the Transatlantic Seminar will be sponsored by the Jones Day law firm and hosted at the firm’s Frankfurt am Main office.  Jones Day – recognized in 2015 by JUVE as “Kanzlei des Jahres” – is a global law firm with offices in major centers of business and finance throughout the world. The firm employs more than 2,500 attorneys. More than 100 lawyers work in the firm’s German offices in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich.

Participants in the Transatlantic Seminar will be provided with a travel stipend, accommodations, several group meals, travel to two prominent legal institutions, and a cultural program. There will be 8 scholarships for German law students / Doktoranden.
